A 398 cc liquid-cooled parallel twin sport bike, sold as the GPX400R and EX400 Ninja, with DOHC and four valves per cylinder. It used carburettors and a six-speed gearbox on an iron double-cradle frame, and was rated at about 50 hp. This earlier version is distinguished from the 1991-95 model mainly by its twin front disc brakes.
